Poetry : Ashes

Halo!

  • Judul : Ashes
  • Event : Genshiken Meet-Up #5
  • Pengarang : Lisa Santika Onggrid // requiem

Akhir kata, selamat membaca!

Ashes

Death is overrated, you once heard them said, as the blood wouldn't wash away
I saw doubt in your eyes at the crosses we made today
Song you sung for their last lullaby gone with the wind
Against the odds, we kept struggling, pretending to be blind
Perhaps it also a punishment because we lived
Prayer is for the weak, you always told me, yet for once you believed
End this quick, I couldn't help but followed
As we mourned the battle commenced
Ringing of a bell, my time growing near
Another one fell, no scream to hear
Now, at last, I knew the reason I called for arms
Cry no more, the blood was never mine
Empty sky stained of gray, I saw the ashes of the day

Poetry : Re:Member

Halo!

Selamat membaca!

Re:Member

Grafitti to my left, rose bushes to my right
Even until the day lost the last light
I keep looking from row to row
For a pine tree with postbox hung low

How do I tell the elderly couple
that on their lawn I see another house with different people?
Husky in place of the dalmatian
in that garden with arched doorway and white picket fence
I used to climb when I was ten

That time we played remember when
Under the clouds of neighborhood field
This isn't like anything from back then
Brick and mortar till nothing left to build

How do I reply to 'welcome back's
that my mind now a patchwork of familiar strangers
Like worn leather shoes, nice and comfortable,
but wrong in all places

That candy shop just right on the next block
no longer,
but twists and turns in a maze I try to solve
it's no use, remember

It's taunting, the shadow
But when I look up even the colors don't match
those images I'm trying to catch

How do I return to home long gone?

Story : Happy Valentine

Hello there! First and foremost, I'll answer two questions that may pop up on your head right now:

  • Yes, the image we embedded above is a direct screenshot from here.
  • Yes, I (posting on behalf of the Genshiken Story team) am terribly sorry for our inactivity recently as this blog is currently still managed single-handedly (:

I'll be quoting StrifeII here, regarding our current condition:

"Doing fine, thank you, I would say, never knowing how to talk about what I do. If I could talk about it, I would not have to do it. I make art, sometimes I make true art, and sometimes it fills the empty places in my life. Some of them. Not all.”

...back to our very subject we shall - still on valentine day's nuance, as love's presence still visible every here and there. 'Happy Valentine' may sound too generic as a title - or is it?

Well, a title's a title - it attracts audiences, yes, but the content itself which should arise to the surface. Exceptions are null for this story. Overflown with emotions and feelings, freshly flowing from Karina R. // Riesling's liquid mind. The creator's expectation, is, not surprising : to let us, dear readers, enjoy this simple yet smile-evoking story. Ah, don't rebut - a good everyday love story always elicit a smile, doesn't it? (:

Before proceeding into the epicentrum of this post, I shall warn you first though : this post contains major spoilers to the story. In case you're still eager to proceed without reading the story, first, don't say that I haven't warned you (:

----------------------------

What would be needed to create a love story? A couple, indeed. Stepping up into the next level, what would be needed to create a good love story? A couple and a good story plot, some say. Now, does this story have both? I'd subjectively say yes, as I found myself drowned into the story - could be biased though, as one of the major factors why this story enchanted me is the locations used in the story (which, in case you're wondering, this story is written at Cisitu itself).

The main (unnamed) character is a timid boy who is - somewhat - attracted by a girl on a certain campus (which is also unnamed, but it should be obvious which campus Riesling was referring to). As the story progresses, he got struck by this 'magical valentine moment' and had a romantic moment with the (yes, also unnamed) girl. The story involves chocolate, yes - so you should be able to guess what will happen next.

...well, not much else to say, really. Although I found the story's progression to be interesting and enjoyable, the story's ending is quite awkward and generic in my eyes. I feel like the ending's being rushed somehow, as it feels like altering from a liquid flow of words into something too solid in a sudden. Riesling herself stated that there will be a bigger continuation of this story someday though, so it's safe to speculate that this short story acts as a 'trailer'. There are some ambiguous sentences also though, most notably the 'Padahal biasanya sehari ketemu nggak sekali' line - doesn't really matter though if you freed your mind while reading this.

In the end, my feelings went mixed after reading this. Again, I'd say this is highly subjective - to be honest I personally had just suffered from a great loss this morning, and I still had that mournful feeling clustering on my head right now. I can say that clearness and tranquility isn't on me at all right now, so... yeah, I'd just leave this post with the link to the story (:

Happy valent-- Haha, you were expecting me to end with that line, weren't you? ...not really, I'd rather end this post with a fitting song to accompany the story instead (as I've mentioned StrifeII as well!)

Story : Stomach Books

  • Judul : Stomach Books
  • Event : Genshiken Story Meet-up #4
  • Pengarang : Graf E. Wijaya // sekop

Selamat membaca!

Stomach Books

Everyone had secret they stomached.

It all started that day, when I came into a scene of murder. It was grisly, blood was dripping everywhere. Beside the corpse there was a black cat atop a bloody book.

For unknown reason I read the bloody book, curious to what it contains. Maybe it had a clue for the person murder?

No, it was not a clue to the murder. The book had nothing to do besides being here on a murder scene.

Instead it was a story book. No, calling it a mere story book would be like calling a king a mere man. This… this book, I think I’m addicted to its story.

Flip through the pages, I reached the last page of the book. It was a cliffhanger, and underneath the ‘to be continued’ a handwritten note was there.

‘If you want to read the rest of the story, follow the black cat, and extract the book from the stomach of those who are marked.

You might want to bring some sharp tool to extract the book.’

Puzzled but still having the need to read the rest of the story, I picked up the knife lying beside the corpse and followed the cat that started to walk away.

----

The cat led me to a dilapidated building; there a man is standing on the second floor sneering at me.

He pulled his shirt a bit, showing me a mark on his right chest.

“So I heard some punk would appear to fight me if I agree to wear this mark. I was expecting someone beside a little girl. Bah, whatever, let’s get it on!”

He jumped down and dash toward me. He proceed to pummel me with nearly no effort, before ending it with an uppercut that threw me back. I was barely able to stay conscious.

It hurts… everything is blurry. Why do I have to fight this guy!?

The book, the story within it, of course. I need to know what’s next, no matter what!

Refreshed, I lunged toward the man with only one thought in my mind. Kill.

The man was visibly startled and clumsily threw his left arm to stop me. It hit my face and broke the lens my glasses.

In the end though I persevere, my reckless lunge managed to plunge my knife into his neck.He fell with face a mixture of shock and respect. I quickly stab his neck manically several more time before he finally stopped moving.

Still shocked and rattled I shakily and messily split his stomach apart, and tiredly I fished out the book within. But as soon I flip the book open and read it, I could feel all my pain and fatigue are washed away.

I want to read. I need to read.

--------

The next marked person was a woman who runs a cozy bar. I walked in with the cat cradled in my arm nervously afraid of witness, but it was only for a moment.

The bar was strangely empty even though it is late in the evening. The only person here is the bartender, a plump woman with a nice smile.

“Hello young lady, what can I help you with? If it’s alcohol, I’m sorry but please wait ‘till you are old-“she never finished her sentence as I lunged at her and stabbed her repeatedly. Her face in death was a shocked one.

This time I managed to gut her stomach with a precise cut instead of a messy one. With a barely restrained enthusiasm I plunged my hand into the corpse and fished out the book.

The book was pure bliss. I just want to read it, more and more. Nothing else matter anymore.

------------

I think it was after the fifth or sixth book is when I meet that person. The mastermind responsible for planting books in people; hewas a young bestselling author with an ever-present uncanny smile.

It was in the evening, after extracting the book from the person I murdered under the bridge. I heard a male voice calling me from above.

“If words could kill, now wouldn’t that be wonderful?” he said with an uncanny smile on his face.

We sat together and he muttered sadly, “I’m bored of being read by the masses… that’s why I make these books.”

He then encouraged me to continue to seek and read his books hidden within people.

“I don’t mind a few murders if it’s in order for you to read my works.” He told me that with that uncanny smile etched to his face. “So please, keep reading my works. I want a reader who’s nothing but the best.”

---------------------

I have managed to collect many books after that. And today, the next mark was a young gentleman who just entered this ball at the hotel I was living in with the author.

A tiny voice told me to wait until he was somewhere secluded. But I ignored that tinyvoice; I need to read the next book now!

I jumped at the gentleman back, clutching him with my legs and right arm. And with my left hand gripping my knife I stab him on his neck.

Quickly I hopped back and circle him to the front. Before he could fell to the ground I gut him with my knife and plunge my right arm into his stomach and pulled the book within.

In mere minutes I managed to get the next book. And I instantly dashed away toward the stair; climbing rapidly to my room at the top floor.

Not caring to rest my leg, or about the facts that my shirt and skirt was bloodied like my hand. I sat down on the room floor and began reading the book.

When I reach the end of the book, the author silently walks toward me from behind. Peeking from above, he read the few lines of the ending of the book, and then he holds me from behind.

“Do you know the next book is the final volume?” he whispered to me while holding a mirror to show me the mark on the back of my neck. “Have you noticed that the next book is within you?”

-----------------

This is it, sitting on the bed of our room. My shaking hands held the knife aimed at my stomach. The final book, the ending to the story, is within me.

I had to read it no matter what.

I plunged the knife into my stomach- the pain was excruciating- I reached in and pull the book out. And I read it with all my focus, ignoring the shuddering from the pain.

I opened the page, and with my fading eyesight I read the only lines of the final book.

‘Congratulations. You are the most superb reader.

The true conclusion lies inside me.”

As I looked up toward the author he was still smiling with that uncanny smile, unbuttoning his shirt down to show me his mark on his chest.

He stood up and spread his arms wide with his face still donning that persistent and uncanny smile. As if he was inviting me to come and try reading the final book.

Struggling to grab my fallen knife, I grit my teeth and gather all my strength for the final book. I lunged at him and stab his stomach with all of my strength. His smile never faltered for even a moment.

We both fell to the bed, with me sprawling beside him. Just a bit more, a bit more, to the final book. I barely felt the author movement to embrace me.

I had… to read it… but my vision darkens.

I can’t… see… can’t… read…

Genshiken Story Meet-up #4

...yep, that's us!

Lima kertas, lima cerita berbeda, lima penulis, dua puluh delapan baris - dengan kelimanya saling mengoper kertas setelah menulis satu baris kalimat.

*this blitz chain-story is made for fun only, without any intention to offend any figures/institutions

GWC : Hide-And-Seek with Elmo

Selamat malam semuanya! Bagaimanakah hari Anda sejauh ini?

Pertama-tama, izinkan kami menyampaikan suatu pengumuman singkat kepada massa Genshiken ITB : Setelah sempat mengalami penundaan, Makrab Genshiken ITB Angkatan 2013 akhirnya memiliki tanggal pelaksanaan resmi!

  • Judul : Hide-And-Seek with Elmo
  • Event : Genshiken Writing Challenge VIII (Creepypasta)
  • Pengarang : Radian Agusta // Reinhart

‘A doll with legs (must not be a human doll or a doll that you like), Rice, Red thread, something from your body), weapon (preferably pencil or needle), salt/saltwater or alcohol, Safety place, a name for the doll.’

“Boneka punya adik, check.
Nasi, check.
Benang merah, check.
Something from your body… hmm… Rambut harusnya bisa, check.
Senjata… Cutter aja deh, check.
Garam, banyak.”

“A name for the doll… kenapa harus dikasih nama sih…” kataku dengan nada yang sedikit kesal.

”Method:
1. Cut the doll and replace the foam/stuffing with rice.
2. Place something from your body into the doll.
3. Wrap the doll with a red thread as if to hinder (stop) the doll.
4. In a bathroom, pour water onto a large washbasin and find a place to hide.
5. Place a cup of salt water in the place before starting the game.”

Itu yang tertulis di blog tersebut. “Cukup mudah…”

Kira-kira sudah sekitar 15 menit berlalu sejak aku mulai mengosongkan isi Elmo, setelah lama mempersiapkan semuanya, aku kembali lagi ke layar komputer.“Oke, cara mainyaaa…” aku terdiam sejenak sebelum perlahan melihat jam di ujung kanan bawah layar komputer.

02:55 AM

‘To play:
Start at 3 AM, since that is the time where spirits are the most free to move.
Give the doll a name (for example: Bob).
When the clock strikes 3, close your eyes and say, "First tagger is (doll name)! First tagger is (doll name)! First tagger is (doll name)!"
When talking to the doll, you MUST talk sternly.
Now go to the bathroom and place the doll in the washbasin.
Turn off all lights.
Close your eyes and count to 10, get your prepared weapon and go to the bathroom.
Go to the doll in the washbasin and say

"I found you (doll name)!"

And stab the doll.
After that, close your eyes again and say

"Now (doll name) is it! Now (doll name) is it! Now (doll name) is it!"

Place the weapon next to the doll and go to your hiding (safety) place. You MUST lock the door.
Also, lock all windows and doors.

Place the salt water in your mouth. DO NOT SPIT IT OUT. The salt water will protect you from the spirit.”

“Oke, udah jam segini, harusnya sih bisa. Beruntung banget pas jam segini buka blognya.” Merasa dikejar waktu, aku mulai mematikan semua alat elektronik mulai dari komputer, TV diluar, sampai semua lampu di rumah.Kenapa?

“First tagger is Elmo! First tagger is Elmo!

Kututup kembali mataku sambil aku bilang

“Now Elmo’s it! Now Elmo’s it! Now Elmo’s it!”

TIba-tiba…

“Hey, you’re in there, aren’t you?”

“I know you’re there.”

Aku tetap diam, meski sangat panik karena kehilangan senjata terakhirku.

“COME OUT!!!”

Aku mulai merinding.

“… I guess you’re not there.”

Lalu…
“What was that sound?”

“I knew it…”

‘I knew it’? apa itu maksudnya dia tau aku bersembunyi disini?? Ah!

“I FOUND YOU!!”

Sedikit demi sedikit, kesadaranku mulai sirna, penglihatanku mulai kabur, badanku melemas.
